Tandem Skydives

For a once-in-a-lifetime experience, a tandem skydive is unlikely to be forgotten! Many do tandem jumps for charity or simply just for the thrill of falling at speeds in the order of 120 mph.

A minimum of 10 minutes instruction is required before a freefall descent attached to an instructor, however with Documentation, Orientation and a Video/DVD presentation the preparation for the jump normally lasts 40-90 minutes. Courses take place on most weekends the year round (excepting the Christmas/New Year Period), and on Bank Holiday Mondays during British Summer Time booking in @ 0830hrs. Mid week options may be possible for group bookings. Following training a full day or in the event of adverse conditions another full good weather day should be set aside for the jump.

Allowing for repack cycles the time required for 1 instructor to complete 1 tandem jump & make ready for the next is in the order of 1.5 hrs; accordingly given several individuals will book for one day a full day, or in the case of inclement weather additional days, should be set aside for this activity. We normally field a minimum of 2 tandem instructors, sometimes more, and work on a ratio not exceeding 1 student per instructor per 90 minutes of daylight hours during our advertised operating hours (0830-2030/dark).

A video can be a good memento of your jump and there is a pool of cameramen available to jump with you to capture your skydive experience on tape or DVD. Each video is a unique reminder of your day, not just the jump itself. The camera pool have considerable experience and will provide you with a professionally edited film for you to keep. Videos can be organised on the day however if you know you will want to have your skydive filmed when you book please inform us then to enable the camera pool to better prepare for you.

A tandem skydive is an ideal first way to experience freefall as well as a fun jump. Many do a tandem skydive for charity and it can be a way of jumping at no cost to yourself. Family and friends are welcome to watch and share your day. We have a cafe, licenced bar, outside seating and a designated spectator area.

Static Line Courses

A static line jump can be done just as a one off experience or as part of a course to progress on to freefall and skydiving. If you have time but want to spread the cost of learning to skydive over a longer period of time then the RAPS course may be just for you.

It is also a good way of seeing if parachuting is something that you would like to carry on with without the expense of an accelerated freefall course. A single static line jump can also be done as a sponsored event for charity. A list of organisations promoting this can be obtained from the Centre by emailing SkydiveAcademy@aol.com.

The Ram Air Progression static line (RAPS SL) course requires a minimum of 6 hours instruction. Courses normally last a full day allowing for coffee, lunch & tea breaks and normally take place on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month, although other dates can be arranged for group bookings, with the jump normally taking place the next day weather permitting. Occasionally during the lighter summer evenings jumps may be undertaken on the day of the course.

Courses can be run on other days for groups of 5 or more if arranged in advance. With the RAPS SL method the parachute is deployed by a static line secured to a strong point within the aircraft. Progression is possible to freefall on later jumps.

AFF Courses

This is an accelerated teaching method relying on a high instructor to student ratio. These vouchers may only be used in 2009 when we will only run the course during the 2nd week of June commencing Sat 6 June, 2nd week of July commencing Sat 11 July and 3rd week of August commencing Sat 15 Aug. The AFF course has the benefit of allowing you to experience freefall from altitudes as high as 12,000 feet on your first jump. As you get freefall experience early, it means that you can learn to skydive quickly and can be doing solo jumps within 8 jumps.

Initial instruction and the first jump can be undertaken in one day. A full course consists of eight levels, each of which can be completed in one jump, and normally lasts five to seven days. Our full course fee includes full BPA membership, googles, gloves and logbook but not repeat levels – a reduction in the course fee may be negotiated if applicants already have these items or if temporary membership is preferred.
